Hatfield and Mccoy Trails in Ashland WV

Joe and Ken have been wanting to ride the trails in WV for years so he got an air b&b and off we went.  I never thought I would have a vacation in WV that didn't include Logan, but here we are.  Yesterday was a blast and I was really impressed with the systems down here.
Jack
Ken hosing Alexa down after riding in the mud all day!
The second day started out great, then Jack had a wreck on his bike.  He's ok but I have to share this story so I can laugh about it later.  He got up and rode for about 30 min then at the next stop started throwing up and and continued doing so, so, we went to the closest hard top and saw a fire station and thought,  "this is perfect" the doors were all open but no one was there.  Jack kept throwing up so Josh called an ambulance. They decided to take us to the Bluefield ER, but half way there we started overheating so we had to wait on a second ambulance to come and get us.  The people at the hospital were great! They gave him some Zofran and did a CT to make sure he didn't have a brain bleed. Everything was good so they discharged him.
This is where the adventure began...

All of our people were still in the mountains and hadn't made it back to where we were staying so I told Josh not to worry about it we would take an Uber. Guess what?! They don't have urber in Bluefield so I tried to get a cab, they don't have cabs either. Next I started searching the internet and found they have a bus that goes to Welch.  The bus didn't get me exactly where I needed to go but I figured if I could get closer then maybe Josh would be back and would come get us.  I called and they said it ran by the hospital every hour, it was 10 till so I said "great, can I pay with a card,"  luckily I had put all of our ID's in josh's wallet yesterday so i got those and his credit card before leaving, but, of course, they said no. The nurses gave me $2.50 to get us from the hospital to the main terminal so we could catch another bus, but we missed it, so one of the guys volunteering at the hospital drove us there.  Before we left though another nurse came out and gave me $10 to cover our fair from town to northfork. This was the only time I almost cried because I wanted to be able to say no, but I couldn't...I had zero dollars!

Once we were at the bus station Jack was starving and of course we weren't in walking distance of anything, but the nice security guard offered to take me to a gas station so I could get some snacks and drinks.
We finally boarded the bus and poor jack was in culture shock lol he sat straight faced the entire ride, oh and I'm pretty sure he and I were the only people with seat belts on because he insisted since there was a sign that said "buckle up"
I forgot to mention that before they put him in the ambulance he took his boots off so he didn't have any shoes!
By this time our group had made it back to the fire station and met the bus and took us back to the house.  Josh had his boots at the door so he just stepped right back into them.  😂
My son is probably traumatized because there were some crazy people in that bus, but I made sure to point out to him how these people we didn't know gave us money because I didn't have a dime on me, a ride to get him food, and good conversation on the bus, for me anyway lol I know a lot of people make fun of WV, but I've broken down in VA before and waited 3 hours on a tow truck and not one person stop to see if I was ok. Today I'm proud to be a West Virginian and so thankful for the people who were in my path today so we didn't end up dead in a ditch somewhere.  I know it wasn't the smartest choice to get in cars with strangers but I didn't hesitate cause I know I would help someone in the same situation.

The next day Jack rode with Keaton in the Can AM and that made it all worth it!

The trip was awesome! I made thank you cards for all the people who helped us and but extra money in them and dropped them off at the hospital on our way out.
Love this pic of the kids!
